What is an FMP?

FMA’s Facility Management Professional (FMP) designation is a knowledge-based credential demonstrating a proven comprehension of the basics of facility management. A springboard for obtaining certification, the FMP designation will help to accelerate an FM's transition into the profession.

What is CFM Self-Assessment?

Candidates who wish to practice for the CFM Exam may choose to take this 54-question self-assessment test. There are six questions from each of the nine competencies. Similar to the CFM exam, the questions appear in random order. There are nine sections to the exam. Candidates work section by section. For example, candidates answer all questions in section one, then have the ability to go back and review their answers. After review, the candidate submits the answers. Once that section is submitted, candidates may not go back. Candidates follow the same procedure for each section. Candidates must complete the self-assessment in one sitting. The self-assessment test is not designed to save incomplete documents. Candidates may not print the self-assessment. At the end of the last section, candidates will click on the Get Results button. Candidates will receive results by competency and print their results.

What are the benefits of recognized certifications?

IFMA has developed standards to recognize certificate programs in extension or continuing education divisions of colleges and universities. The Recognized Certificate Program was developed for the purpose of advancing excellence in the education and practice of facility managers and distinguishing programs that provide outstanding academic preparation in IFMA’s FM competency areas.

Benefits of recognition are:

  • Automatic acceptance as a program provider whose courses and seminars are approved for certification maintenance points for Certified Facility Managers

  • Graduates from recognized certificate program schools are eligible to apply for the IFMA FMP credential. For specific qualifications contact [email protected]

  • Inclusion on a list describing recognized programs that is sent to individuals and employers who call IFMA about facility management certificate programs

  • Recognition at IFMA’s Annual Meeting and in IFMA publications
